Mosquito

I've read a few posts (the guys at boing boing seem to be going back and forth on this) suggesting the "Mosquito", the high pitched ring tone those pesky kids are using to thumb their Razr noses at teachers, parents, and other old fogies in authority, may be a hoax. I have no clue. I didn't even know adult ears lose their sensitivity. I just assumed it happened if you listened to too much loud rock music (guilty, but it was worth it...except when I was talking way too loudly about the people behind us, thinking I was actually speaking in an indoor voice (to the bald fucker in the Des Moines' Starbucks, I apologize)).

There's a link to the mosquito sound file at BBC. I think I can hear it, but it's really faint. I can, however, hear the giggling, which makes me wonder if this is some evil prank being played by the youth of the world.

Unfortunately, I don't have any access to any children right now.

I think I'll be ovulating soon. Is that too young?

Yes, it's very Emperor's New Clothes meets....Children of the Corn.

I think I heard it too. Must find children.

great comic illustration!

i don't think it's a hoax. it is, however, a marvelous diversionary tactic at work: "come by my office and test your auditory age!"

If it is a hoax, it's a good one, because the NYT is sold on it:
